Thursday the 18th of april 2002, Kvarntorp Recycling Network held their general meeting for 2002. The general meeting was ended through awarding the Recycling-prize for the year of 2001 to a company who has been working with improvement of the environment and lasting development within the same field. The winner year 2001 is Lagermetall AB in Örebro.

Näringslivsdirektör Lennart Waara, Örebro kommun; pristagaren miljö-och Qualityschefen Niclas Boson från Lagermetall AB och så projektledaren för numera Kvarntorp Recycling Network Leif Lewin.
The motivation of the jury goes as follows:
"The award for 2001 is given to Lagermetall AB for their work with getting lead out of metal alloys.
The heavy metal lead (Pb), has for a long time been seen as almost impossible to replace as an alloying metal, in bronzes and brasses, used for achieving increased machinability. The negative effects from lead on humans and in the nature, has however rapidly increased the wish and demand for finding other alternatives.
The company Lagermetall AB in Örebro, Sweden, discovered that a new, unique method for production of leadfree copper-alloys had been developed by The Federal Metal Co. in Ohio, USA. In this new method, lead is being replaced by Bismuth (Bi) - a metal far better than lead from a health- and environmental perspective.
As a European partner, Lagermetall AB, have made a revolutionary effort to "convert" the conservative metalbusiness in Europe. The Örebro based company´s large environmental commitment and wide competence have made sceptical manufacturers to realize that lead can be replaced in copperalloys, without losing any major abilities in the metal".
